Antique English Silverplate Cocktail Shaker Built In Strainer 1.5 Pint Art Deco
N/A
Condition note first, because it matters: the lid has damage. It is dented and no longer seats perfectly true, so this is a shaker that displays beautifully but will not hold a hard seal for vigorous shaking. Priced accordingly. A proper English silverplate cocktail shaker in the classic three-part Art Deco form: a tall tapering body, a domed cap that lifts off, and a built-in strainer that seats between them. The body has the soft, slightly warm glow that only comes from decades of handling, with faint copper showing at the high edges where the plate has worn thin. At 1.5 imperial pints it is the larger, less common size. The base carries five pseudo-hallmark punches, MADE IN ENGLAND, and the pattern number L 2960 / 1.5 PT. That pattern-number format matches Sheffield trade convention of the period and dates the piece to roughly the 1930s to 1940s. The maker is not confirmed by the marks alone, so it is offered as English rather than attributed to a named firm. Condition: Used, with the lid damage described above. The strainer is intact, unbent, and seats correctly, which is the part most often missing or crushed on these. Plate wear and light scratching throughout. Please note: silver naturally develops patina and toning over time, so the finish may appear brighter or softer than photographed depending on when it was last polished. - Origin: England - Capacity: 1.5 imperial pints - Marks: pseudo-hallmarks, MADE IN ENGLAND, L 2960 - Era: circa 1930s-1940s
