1970s HandKnit 3-D Cream Afghan Bedspread MCM BOHO Cottage Full Queen Pristine

Heritage 1970s 3D Floral Petals bedspread, counterpane, or coverlet.  Hand-Knit by Jenny Maciejowski Hodgson (1900-2000) of Avalon, NJ. 90 by 70 inches, plus fringe. Rare, One-of-a-Kind, Artisan-made.  This vintage 1970s hand-knit cream bedspread features a unique 3-D floral petals design on a geometric ground, a classic textile design suitable for mid-century modern, country cottage or luxury boho decor. It is the work of one individual, knitting for her own pleasure. In a world increasingly dominated by machine-made imports, this piece represents a rare and disappearing piece of Americana.  Each knitted unit is about 10 inches square. Petal length is 3 inches. The square of the petals is 4 inches. Overall size 90 by 70 inches, plus 6-inch fringe. Weight is 9 lbs, 4 oz. Yarn is acrylic. No flaws, yellowing, stains or stretching.  The pattern for the 3D Floral block was published in mail-order booklets and pamphlets in the 1970s. A similar pattern was published in 2000 by Nicky Epstein in Knitting for Your Home.  This piece of Americana was knitted by Jenny Hodgson, born Jania Maciejowski on Aug. 5, 1900 in Poland. She was a traditional New Jersey housewife and a mistress of exquisite needlework - knitting, crochet, tatting and embroidery. She died Jan. 26, 2000.
